It can be up to four to six weeks if it’s your lower back that hurts (this is called acute lower back pain), notes the health body.

However, for some people, back pain can become chronic and continue for many months or even years.

What can I do about it?

“If you have back pain that’s causing you significant problems or doesn’t seem to be improving after a few weeks, it could be worth seeing a physiotherapist,” advises Bupa.
